Gibbs could return for Partizan
The 20-year-old has made an impressive step up into the first team ever since being introduced as a left winger during preseason in 2007.
Gibbs recently made a simlar progress for the English national team and was promoted ahead of the on-loan Armand Traore in Wenger’s pecking order at left-back prior to the season.
However, the former Wimbledon youngster has seen his chances harmed by injuries and after a resolute performance at White Hart Lane which saw him assist the Gunners’ opening goal and keep Aaron Lennon shackled, Gibbs limped off with a foot injury with initial fears that he had suffered the severe problem which ended his campaign so early last year.
But Wenger revealed the youngster was in no worrying condition and to the delight of fans left in the dark over Gael Clichy’s reliability after Saturday’s show, Gibbs could return for the Champions League trip to Partizan Belgrade on Tuesday.
“He (Gibbs) will be short-term, maybe Tuesday, we don’t know but we will see. It is only bone bruising. There does not look to be any ligament damage. Let’s hope.”
