Arsene Wenger claims there is no room at Arsenal for Wayne Rooney.

The English striker is suddenly unsettled at Manchester United as dismal form and off-field issues resulted in his manager revealing that Rooney is ‘adamant to leave’ Old Trafford.

And while big spenders Manchester City, Real Madrid and Chelsea have been immediately tipped as favourites to secure the 24-year-old’s services should he depart United, some big dreamers have not ruled out other top Europeans clubs including Arsenal from attending any potential Rooney auction.

But quick to end any comical ‘Rooney to Arsenal’ gossip before it begins is Arsene Wenger who claims the prospect of the former Everton man exiting Alex Ferguson’s side is music to the ears but the availability of his own attacking options means another signing is highly unlikely.

“It is a story I am happy to read in the newspapers but I would like to keep out of it. That means we are not buying anybody, we have enough strikers.”

Another big hint from Wenger’s statement was his omission of the talented but rarely witnessed Carlos Vela. The Mexican youngster has been deprived of consecutive starts in his Arsenal career and after only participating with the reserves while Arsenal played Shakhtar on Tuesday, speculation has grown that Vela may be sent out on loan with his future at the club seeming gloomy.

“Tonight we had Bendtner, Walcott on the bench, Arshavin on the bench and Van Persie injured. What do we do with all the players? We are not interested in buying. We are not on the market. It is the 18th of October, the transfer market opens on the 1st of January.”
