Arsenal secured a spot in the group stage of the Champions League with an eventful 2-1 victory over Udinese in Italy.

The Gunners did not seem nervy from the start and could have snatched a lead through their early dominance but it was Udinese who came closest to scoring as Di Natale netted but was rightly ruled offside and then hit the post with another opportunity.

Udinese’s skipper did grab a goal moments later to put his side ahead with a looping header as the hosts leveled matters on aggregate.

Arsenal went into half-time starring a gloomy scenario but Gervinho set up Van Persie perfectly for the Dutchman to make it 1-1 on the night after the restart. Somehow, the visitors were dealt another scare just after scoring as Udinese earned a penalty which was vitally saved by a Szczesny.

Wenger’s men owned the advantage again and a clean finish from Walcott ensured it stayed that way as the Gunners clinched a 2-1 victory on the night and a place amongst Europe’s elite when the draw for the Champions League’s group stage is made in Nyon.
