admitting that his side’s performance was inexcusably below par on Saturday, Arsene Wenger was somehow left unsatisfied by the pitch at Loftus Road.

The Gunners displayed several signs of complacency and lack of focus as Mark Hughes’ men completed quite an upset with a 2-1 victory over what was an in-form Arsenal side.

Arsenal were found at sixes and sevens at the back on a number of occasions as their defenders  – Thomas Vermaelen the most culpable – exposed goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in goal.

Wenger’s side’s impressive run in recent weeks however meant that the Gunners managed to remain in third place – even though Tottenham have a game in hand – but their manager was in a disappointed mood following the final whistle on Saturday.

“The pitch was bad but it does not explain our performance. We did not create enough to win a football game.” Wenger said

“I do not want to single anyone out but of course we made defensive mistakes. It is a good shock to come back to what has made our strength recently. Subconsciously something was missing today. In the Premier League, if you miss something on the commitment front you are beaten. That is what happened today.”
