Injury update on Thomas Vermaelen and Oxlade-Chamberlain
Arsenal have received some positive news on the injury front concerning Thomas Vermaelen and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The duo were withdrawn before the end of Sunday’s 2-0 victory at Liverpool where Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla starred to hand the Gunners their first goals and victory of the season.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was only making his first start of the campaign at Anfield, made way for Aaron Ramsey after 73 minutes as he limped towards the sidelines, but Arsene Wenger has calmed any fears over the 19-year-old’s fitness.
Thomas Vermaelen, who proved an excellent presence amongst Arsenal’s back four on Sunday, suffered several injury scares during the game before finally being replaced by Laurent Koscielny as injury time approached.
The Belgian looked to have sustained a leg problem, but his boss is hopeful that he will not be spending any time out of action.
“Oxlade-Chamberlain had a kick but he is OK. Vermaelen had a kick as well, he should be alright.” Wenger said
Both Vermalen and Oxlade-Chamberlain are due for the upcoming international break. Arsenal’s skipper is set to join the Belgium squad but Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is already with the England camp, did not train with his countrymen at London Colney on Monday as England boss Roy Hodgson handed him a rest.
