A scrappy affair at the Emirates stadium ended in a stalemate on Monday night as Chelsea shackled Arsenal’s attack in a 0-0 draw.

This was a typical Arsenal vs Chelsea clash of tactics. The hosts came to play while the visitors came to keep them at bay. Normally when it all goes right for Wenger’s men they find that breakthrough eventually and when it goes horribly wrong, Chelsea often get that sucker-punch goal in this fixture.

Neither of that happened tonight but neither team will be too frustrated with a point gained from a losable game.

The Gunners did all the work with the ball and dominated possession but Chelsea could have been ahead by half-time. Hazard chipped the ball perfectly for Lampard who volleyed it straight at the woodwork with Szczesny well beaten.

That was the closest either side came to scoring but only a last ditch deflection from John Terry denied Olivier Giroud from sweeping Kierran Gibbs’ low cross home in dying moments of the game before Azpilicueta comfortably cleared a Sagna weak header off the line from a corner.

There were whiffs and sniffs of a chance at either end for both teams in certain periods as Chelsea looked the bigger threat when they counter-attacked. But apart from a crunching tackle from Obi Mikel on Arteta which attracted no card from referee Mike Dean and an ignored penalty appeal from Walcott, there were not too many talking points in this contest.
