Club withdraws from £8million transfer deal
Arsenal have pulled out of the deal to sign Loic Remy.
The Gunners had been in pursuit of the French striker all summer and were even expected to complete his transfer ahead of pre-season. But following meetings between Remy’s representatives and Arsenal last week, the deal has now been called off.
Newly promoted Premier League side Queens Park Rangers had given Arsenal the green light to speak to Remy after agreeing an initial fee of nearly £8million last month.
But it now appears that a wage demand of £80,000-a-week is what has hindered an agreement between the Gunners and the France international after Arsenal offered £50,000-a-week for Remy’s services.
QPR have made it clear that Arsenal are still free to resume their chase for Remy whenever they wish but the Gunners are likely to face competition from Liverpool who have now made an enquiry for the striker.
