28-year-old star agrees €186,000 deal with Arsenal
Olivier Giroud has made an initial agreement with Arsenal over signing a new bumper contract.
The Frenchman has received mixed reviews over his ability to remain Arsene Wenger’s first choice striker but the Gunners have now chosen to stick with the squad’s top scorer in the league last season.
Giroud moved to north London from Montpellier for a price of £9.6m three years ago, scoring 41 goals in 97 Premier League games for the Gunners so far.
According to a report by Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, the 28-year-old and his agent are set to complete talks with the club over a new three-year contract worth £130,000-a-week (roughly €186,000).
The deal will see Giroud become one of the highest-paid players in the Arsenal squad, but Arsene Wenger insists that he is now financially capable of bringing in another striker to challenge the Frenchman.
“We now have the stability that gives us strength. Before I was more exposed to ‘Who will go?’ and now the question I get more is ‘Who will come?” the Gunners boss told the Telegraph
“The transfer market is not over. We can still buy but I don’t think we will sell. Our potential on the market has changed.”
