Promising Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom will be wearing the no. 32 shirt starting next season.

The 19-year-old played an exciting cameo role in Arsene Wenger’s team during the winter even though he was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest for the remainder of last season.

Akpom’s displays after coming off the bench in a string of games were impressive enough to attract interest from the likes of Everton, Liverpool and Manchester United before he signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal.

The English youngster was playing in the final year of his contract last term ahead of the new deal he secured in February.

Wenger has now expressed his intent to keep Akpom as a senior attacking option after reducing the striker’s squad number to a more familiar no. 32.

That number was last worn by Theo Walcott – during his own impressive cameos at the San Siro and Anfield in the 2007/08 Champions League campaign – before he switched to Thierry Henry’s famous shirt.

Wenger’s faith in Akpom means he joins Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck as Arsenal’s main choices of centre-forwards heading into the new season.
