Arsenal’s pursuit of Karim Benzema could be put on hold following a new fitness concern for the Frenchman.

The Gunners are believed to be monitoring the status of Benzema even though the striker is currently sidelined by a thigh injury.

Indeed, the France international is facing a race against time to be fit for Madrid’s start of the new La Liga campaign at Sporting Gijon on August 23.

“Following tests carried out on Karim Benzema by the Real Madrid Medical Services at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital today, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury in his right thigh. His condition will be evaluated,” read a statement released by Real Madrid

According to Spanish outlets, the Gunners have made enquiries but there have been no negotiations between Real Madrid and Arsenal for the much-linked Karim Benzema.

Speaking to the media today, new Madrid manager Rafa Benitez confirmed that the 27-year-old striker will not be sold.

“I think Benzema is going to stay with us. I’m very happy with him.” the Spaniard said
