League One side Millwall have signed youngster Harry Donovan from Arsenal.

The midfielder, who began his career at the Gunners’ Hale End academy, was accepted on a trial at the third division club this week before earning a permanent deal.

Donovan was occasionally involved in first team training sessions with Arsene Wenger’s squad but the UEFA Youth League was the highest level at which he featured during his time in north London.

The 17-year-old agreed to join Millwall following Arsenal’s refusal to guarantee him a professional contract at the end of his scholarship deal.

Donovan’s departure means Arsenal have now seen three of last year’s scholars leave the club after the exits of Jonatas Centeno and George Dobson in the summer.

David Beckham’s son Romeo also chose to leave the Arsenal academy last month.

Arsenal’s youth system is responsible for nurturing current first team players like Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin, Kieran Gibbs and Wojciech Szczesny.
