Club to announce Arteta decision
The Spaniard has managed only five appearances in the Premier League this campaign after surrendering his starting spot in defensive midfield to Francis Coquelin.
Niggling injuries have limited the contribution of Arteta who is reportedly set to discuss his future with the club in January.
The 33-year-old’s contract at Arsenal expires in June 2016, and according to a Spanish tabloid, Arteta could be released by the Gunners when this campaign comes to an end.
The club has already confirmed its support towards Arteta’s pursuit of a career in coaching when he hangs up his boots after allowing the Spaniard to coach Arsenal’s under-16 team last month.
Arsene Wenger’s skipper, who joined the club in the summer of 2011, is currently sidelined by an ankle problem he sustained in training ahead of the 2-1 victory over Everton.
“He [Arteta] has the quality to be a manager in the future I’m sure, but at the moment he gives his focus on the job as a player and gives absolutely everything.” Wenger said last Monday.
Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky are other stars with only eight months remaining on their deal.
