Injured Gunner ‘alright’ to play on Saturday
Mathieu Flamini could make a swift return to action for Arsenal in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United.
The Frenchman has been an ever-present in the Gunners’ starting line-up following Francis Coquelin’s knee injury in November.
But after missing the victory over Bournemouth with an ankle problem, Arsene Wenger has revealed that Flamini could be deemed fit to play this weekend.
“He might be alright [to play against Newcastle]. I could have pushed him but he was a little risk so I decided not to take it because it was an inflamed ankle.” Wenger said
In Flamini’s absence, the defensive midfield role was handed to Calum Chambers who was delighted to help the team return to winning ways after the Southampton thrashing.
“Obviously we’ve bounced back but we didn’t get ourselves too down after the result at Southampton,” he added.
“We know we’ve got a good side here and we just wanted to keep our confidence high and go into the game with belief. I thought it was a great team performance and to be back top of the table is brilliant.”
