Arsene Wenger has responded to calls for Jack Wilshere to be sold by reiterating his faith in the midfielder.

The 23-year-old is yet to make an appearance this season after yet another injury setback which has seen him sidelined since June.

After breaking into the Arsenal first team in 2010, Wilshere has failed to last the full stretch of a campaign in the last five years, prompting suggestions from certain fans for him to be sold by the club.

However, Wenger has vowed to stick with the Englishman just as he did with an injury-prone Robin van Persie in the past.

“I want Jack to stay here. He is a special case because he’s a special talent and he comes out of the club.” the Arsenal boss said

On his last Premier League appearance to date, Wilshere, who could return in February, reminded many of his talent by scoring BBC Match of the day’s goal of the season against West Bromwich Albion.

“I’m optimistic. The games he played in recent years is not many. I hope at some stage it will stop because he’s young.” he added
