Wenger confirms news on returning 25-year-old
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that this weekend’s FA Cup clash with Burnley will come too soon for the fit-again Danny Welbeck.
The 25-year-old finally made it back to first team training this week after spending the past nine months on the sidelines following a minor knee surgery.
Welbeck, who last made an appearance in April 2015, managed to complete Tuesday’s training session before being rested yesterday morning as a pre-caution.
According to Arsene Wenger, the former Manchester United star may be fit to train but he is certainly not to fit to play just yet.
“Danny Welbeck is not completely ready but he is not far. He needs a game or two because he’s been out since last April.” Wenger said
“The Stoke [under-21] game is too soon because he only had one session with the team, and that is too short.”
Just as Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky did, Welbeck is expected to feature for the club’s youth team before being considered for the first team’s upcoming fixtures.
With Olivier Giroud currently being monitored for a slight ankle problem, the return of the England international will be much-welcomed by the Gunners.
