Mesut Ozil was omitted from the Arsenal squad’s training session on Saturday as they prepared for the trip to face Manchester United.

The German star has been arguably Arsenal’s best performer this season, racking up 17 assists and four goals in 24 Premier League appearances.

However, there have been concerns over Ozil’s fitness for the past two months following a calf problem he picked during the 3-0 victory over Olympiakos in the Champions League group stage.

The former Real Madrid star was allowed to sit out training on Saturday morning even though the decision from Arsene Wenger and the club’s medical staff is reported to be only a precaution.

Reserves youngsters Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Krystian Bielik were called up to participate in this weekend’s training session while Gabriel, back from treatment in Brazil, was also involved.

Ozil is still expected to be named in the Gunners’ starting line-up at Old Trafford but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is certainly ruled out after suffering knee ligament damage against Barcelona in midweek.
