‘He should never wear an Arsenal shirt again’ – Twitter bashes Gunner for Old Trafford show
One man has gone from being recommended by fans to feature regularly to now being deemed as bench material.
Since signing for Arsenal in January 2015, Gabriel has been behind Per Mertesacker in the pecking order at centre-back no matter how much he has impressed when called upon.
The Brazilian was at the peak of his form when he kept a clean-sheet and scored a goal in the 2-0 home victory over Bournemouth in December.
However, Gabriel displayed some of his flaws in the reverse fixture earlier this month, looking jittery when Eddie Howe’s side counter-attacked, even though the Gunners managed to win by the same scoreline.
The 26-year-old’s hamstring injury saw Mertesacker back in the fray for the past two weeks but on his return to the starting line-up on Sunday, Gabriel was unconvincing again.
After witnessing Manchester United’s 18-year-old Rashford score two goals in two minutes, some Gooners believe much of the blame belongs to Gabriel.
Gabriel has let us fans down today, he had his chance, we called for him to start and he repays us in that manor.

Thought we were done with joke centre backs. Gabriel joins Cygan, Squillaci, Djourou, Stepanovs

Gabriel really is just a bad version of Vermaelen and Vermaelen wasn't exactly great.

To think that Arsenal fans wanted Gabriel playing over Mertesacker, now you know why he hasn't been starting.

Seriously, it's about time we talk about Gabriel. He's been horrendous this season. New CB is madly needed in summer.

Said it before, Kos is fantastic but Per alongside him makes him better. Struggled with Vermaelen, Gabriel & with France.
