According to Victor Osimhen, he rejected a deal to become an Arsenal player ahead of his move to Wolfsburg.

The Nigerian was one of his country’s stand-out performers in October as his 10 goals helped them clinch the under-17 World Cup.

Arsenal, Tottenham and Anderlecht all showed an interest in Osimhen last month before his family and representatives opted for a move to Germany.

The Gunners have already secured the services of another Nigerian prospect but the 17-year-old has revealed he turned down an opportunity to follow teammate Kelechi Nwakali who moved to London two weeks ago.

“It’s true that a big team like Arsenal wanted me [in January] and I feel honoured to be invited over. But personally I feel Wolfsburg is a ladder for me to reach my professional goals,” Osimhen told BBC Sport.

“Yes Arsenal is a good team for young players but Wolfsburg is the best club for me.

“This the best place for me to learn and develop because my heart is here with Wolfsburg.

“The club’s plan for my career is very encouraging and I believe with God on my side I can grow to become one of the best players in the world,” he added.
