Welbeck: Why I’m not feeling as good
Danny Welbeck has admitted his rotation with Olivier Giroud will have to continue due to his lack of complete fitness.
The England international made his first appearance in almost a year for Arsenal in the home clash with Leicester City, scoring a fairy tale winning goal in injury-time.
Welbeck, who has been in lively form since returning from injury, was again on the score-sheet as Wenger’s men were beaten by Manchester United last Sunday.
However, the 25-year-old insists he is still struggling to keep up with the Gunners’ busy run of fixtures after recovering from last summer’s knee surgery.
“Yes, it is difficult being out for so long and coming straight back into the team,” Welbeck said.
“With the intensity at Spurs I found it quite difficult but I try and give my best every single game and see how it goes.
“It is going to take a while I think. I don’t feel as sharp as I did before my operation and I don’t know how long it will take but I’m getting fitter and stronger each week.”
Arsenal, who are winless in their last five games in all competitions, now sit eight points adrift of Leicester in the Premier League title race.
