‘He proved me wrong yesterday, don’t drop him!’ – Twitter surprised by Arsenal star’s performance
Saturday’s north London derby produced a few surprises but to some Arsenal fans, the biggest one was the display of Mohammed Elneny.
The Egyptian midfielder had to wait until last Sunday to make his first appearance in the Premier League, seeing out the final 20 minutes of the defeat at Manchester United as a substitute.
Many did not expect Elneny to be handed a start in the clash with Tottenham Hotspur but the former Basel star showed no nerves as Arsenal snatched a 2-2 draw despite the sending of his midfield partner Francis Coquelin.
Indeed, the 23-year-old has left such a good impression on most fans after Saturday’s performance that some are calling for Arsene Wenger to change his formation to keep Elneny in the starting eleven.
Coquelin destroying, Elneny's mature decision making on the ball and Ramsey's attacking runs bodes well as a midfield for the run-in

Elneny needs to remain in the side for the time being where he can hopefully build up an understanding with Coquelin (after the Hull game).

Elneny proved me wrong yesterday. I thought he'll be a bang average squad player but now I think this guy has real potential, only 23.

Elneny looked fantastic against Spurs, passed the ball well and stayed surprisingly disciplined. A good tackler of the ball.. #afc

Can't help but feel Wenger has fallen upon a solution again in Elneny and Coq,seems to happens lot to him

Still can't believe we lost to United. Mediocre side. We wouldn't have lost to them if Wenger started Elneny CM.

Elneny performed well enough to consistently start. More of an away from home player where we need to keep it tighter. Very good on the ball

Obviously, like we all been saying, Elneny and Coq combinations works better than Coq and Ramsey. Aside the goal, Ramsey is a waste of space
