Danny Welbeck has admitted there are no excuses for the regrettable 2015/16 season that Arsenal have endured.

The Gunners went into the second-half of the campaign sitting pretty at the top of table with fans and some pundits almost in no doubt that the title drought since 2004 could be brought to an end in May.

However, a severe dip in form has seen Arsenal concede the title to Leicester City who are now on the verge of becoming the fairy-tale champions with two games to spare.

With five goals since returning from injury in February, Danny Welbeck has played his part in helping Arsene Wenger’s side undo the damage.

But the 25-year-old insists the sight of Arsenal well behind top spot on the table at the end of April is quite a disappointment.

“Everyone is very disappointed. We knew it was a great opportunity for us to go for the title this season.” Welbeck said.

“It is difficult to handle with the way it has ended. It has not ended yet, but the way it is ending, I think we know in ourselves and as a club we should be doing better.”
