Arsene Wenger has dismissed rumours that Carl Jenkinson is on the verge of leaving Arsenal after nearly half a decade at the club.

The 24-year-old is currently recovering from a severe knee injury he suffered while on loan at Arsenal’s Premier League opponents this weekend, West Ham.

After being sent back to north London by the Hammers following below-par performances at Upton Park, there have been rumours that Jenkinson could be offloaded to a new club on a permanent deal.

However, Arsene Wenger has suggested that the right-back will return to compete with Hector Bellerin for a starting spot next season despite the current uncertainty over his future.

“He has gained a lot of confidence” the Arsenal manager said

“I see his future as being a contender for this [right-back] position at our club”
