Arsene Wenger has explained his decision to start David Ospina in goal instead of a fit-again Petr Cech last week.

The Colombian shot-stopper had deputized impressively in the absence of Cech but West Ham’s Andy Carroll managed to score a hat-trick against him last Saturday.

After being criticized by some for naming his first-choice goalkeeper on the bench at Upton Park, Wenger has revealed he was not confident in Cech’s fitness ahead of the 3-3 draw.

“Petr Cech is our No 1 but Ospina is also a fantastic goalkeeper. His numbers are absolutely exceptional in the Premier League.” the Arsenal boss said

“I felt that Petr Cech had only had one week of training and was only just coming back.”

When about asked who would start in goal against Crystal Palace, the Gunners manager chose to give nothing away.

“I have not decided that. When it is decided I will have to inform the people first.” Wenger added
