Arsene Wenger will have the option to name Santi Cazorla in a matchday squad for the first time in six months this weekend.

The Spaniard has spent a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury which required surgery in the 1-1 draw against Norwich City in November.

After returning to first team training, Cazorla managed to feature for the club’s under-21 team on Tuesday as they defeated Blackburn 2-1 in a play-off semi-final for league promotion.

The 31-year-old was in action for 62 minutes at the Emirates stadium while the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Calum Chambers and Serge Gnabry played the full game at the Emirates stadium to improve their fitness.

Cazorla, who could be deemed fit to be named in the 18-man Arsenal squad which travels to Manchester City on Sunday, produced an assist for the first of Chris Willock’s two goals on the day.
