Arsene Wenger has confirmed the first of several departures this summer ahead of the weekend clash with Manchester City.
Following another season of failing to win the Premier League title, the Gunners have been urged to pursue new additions from the transfer market.
However, the club will have to part ways with unneeded players first and Wenger has admitted that Mikel Arteta will be allowed to leave when his contract expires on June 30.
The Spaniard, who was signed from Everton in 2011, is likely to join Manchester City’s coaching staff when his Arsenal career comes to an end.
“It’s true that he’s out of contract here. It’s a good opportunity for me thank him for his contribution not only as a player but as a leader.” Wenger said
“What kind of orientation will he give now to his career? I heard about that possibility [going to Man City] but I don’t know. He could inform you much better than I can. He’s free to decide what he wants.
