Gunners’ strange deal to re-sign former player
Arsenal are apparently interested in bringing a former Gunner back to London, four years after his departure.
Following the exits of Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky, Arsene Wenger is bound to add at least one more midfielder to his squad after the imminent signing of Granit Xhaka.
The Gunners have reportedly been monitoring Oguzhan Ozyakup who was previously signed from AZ Alkmaar’s youth academy in 2008.
According to Turkish publication Fanatik, Arsenal are to submit a bid of £12m for the 23-year-old who has been in impressive form for Besiktas over the past two seasons.
Besiktas’ sporting director insists there has been no formal offer received for the midfielder but the Gunners are believed to have made an enquiry about the player’s availability.
Before leaving the club to return to Turkey in 2012, Ozyakup featured for Arsenal’s Under-18 team as they clinched the Premier Academy League title triumph in 2009 .
The Turkish youngster scored 10 goals and recorded eight assists in all competitions for the Istanbul giants this season.
