Arsenal are expected to announce an agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach over the transfer of Granit Xhaka by next week.

The Switzerland international has been touted as a transfer target for the Gunners who are set to say goodbye to a host of midfielders including Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky this summer.

Various sources including the player’s friend Artan Muhaxhiri claimed yesterday that Xhaka and his family were set for a flight to London to complete his imminent move to Arsenal.

Xhaka will become Arsene Wenger’s first signing of what is expected to be a busy summer transfer window after agreeing to sign a five-year contract worth £110,000-a-week with the club.

The news of the midfielder’s arrival for a medical at London Colney this weekend has been confirmed by highly reliable BBC journalist David Ornstein.

Borussia Mönchengladbach will receive a £30m payment from Arsenal for the services of the 23-year-old.
