Pundits says Perez may not be good enough
Arsenal have finally completed the signing of a new striker but not everyone appears to be impressed.
After failing to secure a deal for Jamie Vardy in June, Arsene Wenger came under immense pressure as his side began the season by dropping five points in clashes against Liverpool and Leicester City.
Thus, the Arsenal manager refused to end the summer without the arrival of a new goalscorer as Lucas Perez was lured from Deportivo La Coruña in the final week of the transfer window.
However, the Gunners’ £17.1 million signing is unlikely to be a hit according to Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.
Merson insists Perez, who will soon be 28 years old, would not be still waiting for his first appearance for the Spanish national team if he was good enough.
“They would have got an A [in transfer business rating] if they had signed a top forward because I’m not sure about Lucas Perez,” he said.
“He’s been in Spain and their national team have been looking for a centre forward for a long time and he hasn’t played.”
