Leicester City star Jamie Vardy added more to the list of reasons why he decided to turn down the opportunity to become an Arsenal player this summer.

Following Danny Welbeck’s injury in May and the indifferent form of Olivier Giourd last season, Arsene Wenger spent much of the summer under pressure to add a new striker to his squad.

Thus, Arsenal submitted a £22 million offer in June for Vardy which triggered a release clause in the player’s contract. However, the 29-year-old chose not to move to London despite Leicester City’s agreement with the Gunners over a transfer fee.

Vardy has spoken on several occasions about the reason behind his decision to reject Arsenal and the England international now claims he did not expect to fit in with Wenger’s style of passing football.

“With people like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil creating chances, Arsenal felt they could benefit me as much as I could them,” Vardy told the The Sun.

“But I also thought about the tactical aspect. You look at Arsenal’s style of play and they don’t get the ball forward quickly in the same way Leicester do for those runs I like to make in behind the defence.”
