Arsenal are apparently in pole position to secure the signing of one of Europe’s most sort-after young talents according to reports.

After witnessing the below-par form of Olivier Giroud help cost his side the Premier League title last season before Danny Welbeck suffered a severe knee injury in May, Arsene Wenger made the addition of a new goalscorer one of his priorities during the summer transfer window.

After failing to complete deals for Jamie Vardy and Gonzalo Higuain, the Gunners settled with the signing of Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna right before the window closed.

However, the Spanish striker is yet to cement a spot in the starting line-up ahead of Alexis Sanchez, prompting rumours that Wenger could pursue one more forward in January especially with Giroud not getting any younger.

Following a fall-out between Inter Milan fans and Mauro Icardi, the Sun and Football-Italia are now claiming that Arsenal are expected to make a new approach to sign the goalscorer.

The 23-year-old recently signed a new five-year contract at the San Siro, which includes a release clause of €110m, even though his agent appeared to be engendering a move to the Emirates stadium during the summer.
