One of Arsene Wenger’s out-of-favour players has been handed an opportunity to represent his country following a 12-month absence from international football.

With a squad which features some of football’s household names, the international break is usually a chance to rest for only a few Arsenal players.

Kieran Gibbs, who has completely lost his place to Nacho Monreal in Wenger’s starting eleven over the past couple of seasons, was one of the players left over while others traveled to represent their countries.

However, an injury to Ryan Bertrand has seen Gareth Southgate call upon the services of Gibbs who has not represented the national team in almost a year.

Danny Rose, who replaced the injured Southampton defender, is expected to take over as England’s starting left-back in their next fixture.

But the call-up now means Gibbs will have to end his holiday in Dubai to team up with the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the rest of the England squad.

The left-back position appears to be one of concern for the Three Lions after another injury last month saw previous manager Sam Allardyce hand Arsenal youngster Tafari Moore a surprise inclusion in the squad.
