Giroud: My thoughts on Wenger’s big decision
Olivier Giroud has expressed his thoughts on Arsene Wenger’s decision to keep him on the bench behind Alexis Sanchez for much of the season far.
The French international has began the new campaign as a back-up to Sanchez who has been impressive in the centre-forward role.
Giroud made a convincing attempt to regain his place in the starting eleven by scoring a brace after coming off the bench in the 4-1 victory over Sunderland.
However, the 30-year-old insists he has accepted the idea of not being Arsenal’s first choice striker for now.
“In every big club you have a lot of good strikers with different qualities,” Giroud said,
“We can play together, we can play as lone strikers and we can play up front with each other as well.
“The team has played very well at the start of the season but it’s cyclic and I hope to come back by working hard in training. I’m happy as long as we win. We have a very good team cohesion and I’m not questioning myself too much. I’m just focused on the team.
“I just need to play and play more and, in training, show that I’m in good form. That’s what I tried to bring to the team when I came on against Sunderland. I tried to help the team get back in the game because it was 1-1 and we needed the win, so fortunately I was in the right position to finish.”
