Walcott: The secret behind what I’m doing
Theo Walcott has revealed what has helped improve his form this season after a string of below-par performances last season.
The 27-year-old was omitted from the England squad for Euro 2016 after enduring a disappointing 2015/16 campaign which saw Arsenal surrender the Premier League title to surprise winners Leicester City.
Following several months of being criticised by fans and pundits, Walcott appears to have rediscovered his best form so far this season after scoring seven goals in only nine appearances.
According to the forward, his new willingness to track back more is what has made the difference.
“I am happy with the goals. I’m happy with the general play and defensive play as well, perhaps even more than the forward part of my game.” Walcott said
“I already know how well I can go forward, but there’s also other bits to do and I’ve been doing that this season.
“I think it’s the biggest step forward I’ve taken this season. It’s the biggest piece of energy which I’ve never had before.
“I don’t know what that is, but I’ve been working really hard on that, in the summer and with a personal trainer – all little things which add up. It seems to be going well at this moment in time and I’m enjoying playing football.”
