Confirmed: Surprise Arsenal approach for 39-goal superstar transfer
The Gunners’ recent approach for a very expensive signing has been revealed by the agent of the player.
Arsenal have usually being recognised for cheap spending in the transfer market over the years but the summer transfer window saw the club break the trend through the acquisitions of Granit Xhaka, Rob Holdig, Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez which cost well over £100 million in total.
Following the struggles of Olivier Giroud last season and the failed deals for Jamie Vardy and Gonzalo Higuain, Arsene Wenger was frequently linked with a move for a host of highly-rated strikers.
And it appears there was another unsuccessful attempt to recruit a well-known goalscorer following the revelation that Arsenal actually made an offer to sign Borussia Dortmund talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
According to the player’s representative Vincenzo Morabito, the Gunners tabled a bid for the 27-year-old who scored 39 goals in competitions last term.
“Sometime ago, I called Zork, Dortmund’s director of football, to talk about Aubameyang [on behalf of Napoli], but the ‘no’ was absolutely categorical.” he said as quoted by the Daily Express
“I know that this summer, Arsenal offered €90m ($98m) for Aubameyang, but Borussia didn’t want to hear anything about it…”
