“I was hurt, disappointed” – Arsenal star reveals incident with Wenger in September
Olivier Giroud has opened up about the disappointing times he endured during the first few weeks of the new season.
The 30-year-old was a regular in the French national team’s starting eleven during the summer as Didier Deschamps’ side made it all the way to the final of the competition.
However, Giroud has not enjoyed that role at Arsenal so far in the 2016/17 campaign with Alexis Sanchez being preferred to lead the Gunners’ front-line in a new style of attack.
According to the Frenchman, his underwhelming start to this season reached a new low when he was only named on the bench in Arsenal’s Champions League opener in September.
“I thought I would start [against PSG] because the coach had put me on the bench against Southampton, three days before,” Giroud said.
“It is in that moment, on the morning of the match in Paris, that I had a discussion with him. He said that I was close to returning. Frankly, I was hurt, disappointed.
Giroud has also revealed the injury which he only recently recovered from was suffered on that night he was brought on as a substitute against the Ligue 1 champions.
“This match was finally terrible because I hurt my foot after two minutes, and I couldn’t get in my stride. And I am then sent off. The following week, against Chelsea, I take my first ball and the pain returns immediately.” he added
