Wenger: The good news and bad news I have
Arsene Wenger has revealed the status of his Arsenal squad heading into Wednesday’s League Cup clash with Southampton.
The Gunners are preparing to host Claude Puel’s side in the quarter-finals of the competition after defeating Nottingham Forest and Reading 4-1 and 2-0 respectively in the previous rounds.
Arsenal will also be looking to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 20 games following Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Despite being expected to name a second string line-up for the cup fixture, Wenger has revealed that injuries are still an issue ahead of Southampton’s trip to the Emirates stadium.
According to the Arsenal manager, the good news is that one of the players who had been missing for a couple of weeks has returned to action.
“Lucas [Perez] is in the squad and will will have a mixture of youth and experience, but still 90 per cent of the first-team squad.” Wenger said.
However, the Gunners boss has confirmed that key striker Olivier Giroud is back on the sidelines while Mathieu Debuchy is set to be out as well.
“Mathieu has a scan today [Tuesday] but we don’t have the results yet,” he added.
