A former Arsenal player has already declared his prediction about how Arsenal’s pursuit of the Premier League crown will end this season.

Arsene Wenger’s men were tipped by some to finally finish outside the top four this season after beginning the campaign with a 4-3 defeat at home to Liverpool.

However, an impressive run of 12 games unbeaten in the league, which saw them thrash current leaders Chelsea 3-0 in September, has kept Arsenal very much in the title race as they sit only three points adrift of the top.

Even so, November’s results against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have seen Arsenal attract criticism again.

And according to ex-Gunner Alan Smith, Wenger’s side are unlikely to end their 12-year title drought this season.

“I wouldn’t have too much money on them winning the league, I really wouldn’t.” Smith was quoted as saying on Sky Sports

“The performance at Old Trafford showed their shortcomings.

“They have got better, they’re winning or drawing some games that they might have lost last year, but I still think they’re a distance off having that mental attitude to go on and stamp their authority on the league.

“They have great quality and strength in depth – but are still a little bit short for me unfortunately.”
