Update: Arsenal boss receives news of another injury worry on Sunday morning
Arsenal have received the news of another injury blow following Saturday’s 5-0 victory over Southampton.
Arsene Wenger had a lot to cheer about despite being restricted to watch his team from the stands as the Gunners thrashed Claude Puel’s side in the FA Cup.
However, the Arsenal manager has a new concern to deal with after Mohamed Elneny picked up an injury while on duty with the Egyptian national team.
The midfielder has been in Gabon over the past month for the Africa Cup of nations tournament but his participation could be brought to an end earlier than expected.
Arsenal were notified on Sunday morning that Elneny had suffered a calf problem ahead of Egypt’s quarter-final clash with Morocco which they managed to win 1-0.
Egypt’s latest victory means the 24-year-old is guaranteed to miss Arsenal’s next fixtures until mid-February if he recovers.
However, Elneny could still be ordered to return to London if his injured is deemed to be severe. And with Granit Xhaka serving three more games out on suspension, that could be a worry for Wenger in the midfield department.
