We should win the FA Cup for Wenger
Arsenal secured a place in the semi-final of the FA Cup for the 29th time in the club’s history on Saturday.
After the midweek embarrassment against Bayern Munich, Arsene Wenger named a very strong starting line-up for the cup tie as Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi kept their places at centre-back while Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud took over the attack.
A goal from Theo Walcott on the stroke of half-time opened the scoring before Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey all got their names on the score sheet in the second half.
The non-league side were expected to be put to sword tonight but after 44 minutes of action on Saturday, it was not so easy to predict their downfall.
Arsenal were frustrated by Lincoln for much of the first half with Petr Cech having to pull off a brilliant save to prevent the away side from stunning the Emirates stadium by taking the lead.
But into injury time of the opening half, Walcott took advantage of some neat touches from the Gunners in the penalty box to guide home the important first goal.
After the restart, it was all one-way traffic and as soon as Giroud slotted the ball into the net for Arsenal’s second, the floodgates were opened as an own goal from the visitors made it 3-0 in quick fashion.
Sanchez, who was dropped from the starting line-up at this time last week, got involved in the goal fest with a sublime long-range strike before Ramsey literally walked the ball home to make it 5-0.
Arsenal now find themselves with a trip to Wembley to look forward to. And even though there are bound to be tougher opponents than today’s in the semi-final, this will be a major opportunity to see out the Wenger era on a positive note.
