Holding – Why I didn’t leave in January
Arsenal youngster Rob Holding has lauded Arsene Wenger for choosing not to send him out on loan in his debut season at the club.
The 21-year-old moved to the Emirates stadium from Bolton in a £2 million deal last summer after the Trotters had been relegated to League One.
Many expected Holding to be sent out on loan due to his lack of experience but the youngster remained at the club while Calum Chambers moved to Middlesbrough instead.
Holding, who has now cemented a place in the starting eleven, also survived the January transfer window and the centre-back says it was all due to Wenger’s faith in him.
“I didn’t leave in January as the boss wanted me around the team. He saw me playing.” Holding said
“I just had to listen to him and keep working hard on the things he mentioned. That has spoken for itself over the last few games.
“I got a look in at the start of the season and then some cup games. After that it was just about being on the training pitch, putting the work in and getting another chance.
“Since I got the chance, I’ve managed to take it and the boss has shown some faith in me to keep me in the team.”
