Arsene Wenger has been handed better news regarding the future of one of his most important players.
The Gunners manager looks set to remain at the Emirates stadium for another season at least, despite a growing demand for him to step down after this season.
And if Wenger is to stay at Arsenal, one of his biggest tasks will be to retain the services of star midfielder Mesut Ozil.
The 28-year-old, who cost the Gunners $53.9 million in his move from Real Madrid in 2013, has only one more year remaining on his contract.
However, Ozil has issued a new statement, reiterating his desire to remain in England even though rumours have continued to link him with a departure.
According to the Germany international, his new deal with Arsenal will soon be negotiated.
“I have always said I am very happy at Arsenal. I love London, and the lifestyle here is perfect for me. I love my teammates and get along with them very well,” the 28-year-old said
“But as I’ve said before, the talks will be in the summer.
“We have to achieve the targets as a team first.”
