Former Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer has expressed his admiration for one of Arsenal’s legendary players.
The Gunners last won the Premier League title during the 2003/04 season as they went through the entire campaign without losing a single game.
However, one man who was not part of the Arsenal squad in arguably the club’s greatest ever achievement was Tony Adams who had hung up his boots by then.
Even so, Shearer insists the English centre-back was certainly the best opponent he came up against as a striker.
“The best defender I’ve played against, and always say, was Tony Adams,’” Shearer said on the Premier League Show.
“His job was to defend and he was the best defender I played against.”
Shearer also added that Adams was more difficult to beat than Sol Campbell, the man who was charged with the task of replacing him.
“(I) Didn’t mind playing against Sol Campbell. I felt as though I could drag Sol to where I wanted to.” he added
