Alex Song agrees to join FC Barcelona
Alex Song has today accepted a proposal from FC Barcelona to move to the Spanish club.
The former SC Bastia youth player has accepted the terms of Barcelona’s contract offer and will see his weekly wages nearly double from the £55,000 he currently earns at the Emirates Stadium.
The Cameroon international had taken part in Arsenal’s entire pre-season campaign, but suggestions over a move to Barcelona during the past month has unsettled Song’s future as a Gunner.
But despite claiming he is ”happy at Arsenal” only four days ago, Song – who did go on to admit his interest in a move to Barca – now looks set to bring his seven-year stay at Arsenal to an end.

The 24-year-old managed to provide 14 assists and a goal in 46 appearances last season. And that impressive campaign from a defensive midfield role has sprung praises from the Barcelona camp. Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique have all announced their desire to see Alex Song move to the Nou Camp in recent weeks.
Arsene Wenger’s admission of the Cameroonian’s potential departure during his pre-match press conference yesterday was very much the nail in the coffin to Alex Song’s future at Arsenal.
A deal is yet to be struck between the two clubs despite Song’s agreement to join the Catalan side but Arsenal are to hold talks with Barcelona officials this weekend to sort out the transfer which could be worth around £16.5 million.
In that case, Alex Song has been withdrawn from the squad to play against Sunderland today.

Good riddance! Just move on those who are not accountable.
Agreed. Good midfielder but we need a dm and/or a cm who is truly box to box.
It will be sad to see Song leave the club.He was a wonderful player for us last season, but his lack of discipline cost us some games. I wish him all the best in his future endeavour. Good bye Song, thanks for everything
Sigh, cunts every where.
If Arsènè wèngèr finally agrees 2 sell Alex song then it means he doesn’t want anything good 4 d Gunners. Wake up wenger, wake up!
Ur very correct, they are all greedy people. I agree with u
Song was too clumsy and gave away a lot of fouls in central positions. Hope we replace him by Sahin or alternatively by M’Villa.
If they want to go then get rid and good ridance.
I think it is a good move for Song. I wish him all the best. He did not get the respect that he deserved from a large enough section of the Arsenal support and he is worth more £55,000 per week in the present climate.
He has served the club well and is deserving of a massive pay rise and sign on fee. His progress over the past couple of seasons has warranted his move to the best club in world football, that is too much to turn down me thinks.
All the best Alex at least you did not have the audacity to go to our hated rivals like the one who claimed he loved the club in 2011 and could not see himself wearing another shirt.
As for those who claim that Song is not good enough, why do the best club in the world want him? It shows how undervalued he was by a lot of Arsenal supporters, they cannot see the obvious.
song u are welcome 2 best club in de world.congratulations.
I’m saddened by the events of this week. We have lost our two best performing players from last year. This added to Nasri, Cesc, Clichy, Adebayor, Vela and potentially Walcott has basically spelt the end of the nearly men at the club. I only hope that we get players in who take pride in the shirt and not the wage packet. if we are however relaying on the fitness of Diaby and Wilshire then I think we are screwed. It’ll be evident with whom he plays as the “defensive” midfielder today.
Manager Wenger always plan the dawnfall of the team, and claim he does not know about it. While mostly he (wenge) bring in idea and lie it was borad, they think they love money more others or what? And when will they try to please fans for once when?
He’s getting rid of all of Darren deins client’s!
Thank you Song for your wonderful contributions during your time with Arsenal. Good luck with your new club..
Great servant, will be sadly missed. Verygood business for the gooners…
If Alex song move to Barcelona who is to replace him
gd money to pass by.arsn is busness not titles. doesnt matter we r drawing agnst sdrland.same old arsenal.no surprises.would u blame an persie or song? no.
It wil be a gra8 signing if barcelona capture him, barcelona 4 life.
i”m feeling like crying for missing this promising gem,if we could not find a perfect replacement 4 him i will not forgive wenger, i hope that we are not relying on conq to develop and if that we are really a feeder team. missing you and wising u best. I looooooveeeee uuuuuuuuuuuu
Tito villanova u better bring song and neymar to the catalan bcos they are very importan to the club
We’re goin 2 b happy 2 c alex song at barca! Up barca!!!
barca are in for a surprise if they think that song is any good. he’s good at sitting back and picking off opposition attacks but he’s nowhere near good enough to fit into barca’s fluent passing system. he’ll clog the whole thing up. xavi won’t like him one bit.
he’ll get loaned away after a year. spurs or someone will probably buy him off barca for a cut price fee eventually.
barca sure do sign a lot of dross.
I am happy for song move to nou camp.
Alex Song is going to win medals and trophies.
As longs as wenger continues to pay this players peanuts they will always go,I mean just ask yourself which arsenal player have left the club to other club and received less take it or leave it football is a profession so money is involved stop all the loyalty talk. Only wenger will stay because he is being paid highly.
tito has start doing good job since he insit to buy a great midfielder as alex song…great catalans 4life
i’m very happy 2 see alex song at barcelona fc
Song u are welcome to the best team in the world. Amaraba!!
