A strike from Walcott only seconds after kick-off paved the way for an early Arsenal onslaught which saw Djourou double their lead before a Van Persie brace sent Arsenal cruising at 4-0 with less than half an hour gone.

The Gunners though, chose a stunning self-destruction after the restart which began with Diaby being sent off for an offense. The visitors were then awarded a penalty moments later and after Barton converted to pull a goal back, Best further reduced the deficit to just two, before Baron dispatched yet another penalty for Newcastle to make it a nervy 4-3 with seven minutes and injury time left.

And then dramatically, but somehow inevitably, Tiote completed Arsenal’s collapse with a late equalizer.
