Wenger wants three new players
Arsenal would do with three new signings at most in Arsene Wenger’s view.
The Gunners have secured the likes of Carl Jenkinson, Gervinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, but have seen the exodus of several experienced players starting from Gael Clichy to Samir Nasri.
Wenger though, has been reluctant to replace his departed players but the Frenchman has cited January’s African Cup of Nations – which will see several of his men out on international duty – as the main reason to add new faces to squad.
“It is important [to strengthen] because we will lose players in January with players going to the African Nations Cup,” said Wenger.
And thus, the Arsenal boss admits his side needs a new player in every department from the back-line to upfront.
“We lose Gervinho and Chamakh together so, first of all, it is important to strengthen up front. It is important that we find one midfielder and one defender as well. So we are still short of three bodies.” he added.
“My time has been taken up [by players going out] and it was a very difficult summer on that front because we had to face adversity, negativity, but it had to be done. Overall, we tried to do as well as we could.”
