Arsenal are reportedly awaiting a work permit approval to finalize the signing of Mohamed Elneny after agreeing a £5million deal for the Basel star.

Elneny is expected to be Arsene Wenger’s solitary January acquisition and according to the Daily Mail, he completed a medical ordered by Arsenal in Paris today before signing a four-and-half-year contract.

However, the midfielder is required to wait for clearance on a visa before the deal is officially sealed.

Reports from the Swiss media are suggesting that Basel are hoping to declare the sale of Elneny as early as next week if all goes to plan.

The 23-year-old, who has registered 39 international caps for Egypt, is unlikely to be denied a work visa.

Southampton’s Victor Wanyama and Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho had all been reportedly monitored by Arsenal, but Elneny was believed to be a less expensive alternative.

Despite Arsenal’s current need of a defensive midfielder, the former Arab Contractors star is naturally an attacking-minded central midfielder.
