Gunners bench Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has stated that the club will move to make another signing only in the event of a current player’s departure.

The Gunners have appeared unlikely to land any new additions following the arrival of Mohamed Elneny who joined from Basel in a £7.4 million deal.

However, with some of the biggest transfers in football often being completed in the latter stages of the transfer window, some have refused to rule out one last major announcement from Arsenal before the deadline.

According to Wenger, who signed Andrey Arshavin on deadline day in January 2009, there may be an emergency search for a new Gunner but only if one leaves.

“No, not [working on any deal] at the moment. Unless people go out we are not on the verge of bringing anyone in.” the Arsenal boss said.

Even if Arsenal fail to secure another signing before the window closes on Monday, one move which is certainly on the cards is Mathieu Debuchy’s exit on a loan deal as he searches for regular first team football.

“Mathieu might go somewhere but that decision has to be made quickly because there is only 48 hours to go.” Wenger added
