Koscielny: Why there were problems at Arsenal
Laurent Koscielny has expressed what he believes was instrumental to Arsenal’s dramatic mid-season collapse.
Following struggles of rivals Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City, the Gunners were tipped to be in a favourable position to win the Premier League title this season.
However, several disappointing results in recent weeks have seen Arsenal fall 11 points behind league leaders Leicester City while bowing out of the FA Cup and the Champions League to Watford and Barcelona respectively.
According to Laurent Koscielny though, criticism leveled at Arsene Wenger’s men is unfair because the team’s dip in form was influenced by injuries to players.
“The first half of our season was good. Then, when we arrived at February, we had quite a bad run of injuries.” the centre-back said in an interview during international duty with France
“When you are missing Cazorla, Welbeck, it is difficult to fight with certain competitors.”
Despite ruing Arsenal’s injury problems, Koscielny has admitted that his side has a mentality issue which needs improvement.
“We need to rediscover our fundamentals. Playing nice football will not be enough to win, what is important is to get points.” he added
