Ozil reveals Wenger influence in 2013 deal
The Gunners’ most expensive signing ever has revealed the reason behind his decision to move to the Emirates stadium.
Mesut Ozil was arguably Arsenal’s star performer from last season, producing an impressive total of 19 assists in the league which was almost enough to beat Thierry Henry’s all-time record.
The German international will be entering his fourth season as an Arsenal player next term after choosing to leave Real Madrid for London in 2013.
However, the 27-year-old insists he would not have departed the Santiago Bernabeu if it was not for the sake of Arsene Wenger.
“He was the big influence. He was the guy to explain to me what he wanted me to do, what he wanted to do with the club and me” Ozil said
“So in the end I decided to go to Arsenal for him because I’m so thankful to have such a big coach. We will always support him”
