Jack Wilshere slammed on BBC by Shearer
Criticism directed at Arsenal’s solitary England star at Euro 2016 has continued following the Three Lions’ surprise exit from the tournament on Monday.
Including Jack Wilshere in the England squad for this summer’s competition proved to be a controversial decision as some argued that the Arsenal star did not warrant a place in the team due to his injury-plagued 2015/16 season.
Despite receiving the backing of Roy Hodgson and captain Wayne Rooney during the Three Lions’ stay in France, England’s 2-1 defeat to Iceland has brought back complaints about Wilshere from the public.
According to a fuming Alan Shearer on Monday, the selection of Arsenal’s 24-year-old star was one of many errors from England’s former manager.
“Roy Hodgson was tactically inept. We had players in the squad who didn’t deserve to be in the squad.” Shearer said on BBC.
“How on earth can you pick Jack Wilshere? He hasn’t played 90 minutes for over a year. How on earth can he be deemed fit enough or good enough to represent England?”
“He [Hodgson] brought him on at halftime to try and save the game after taking him off after 50 minutes the other day [against Slovakia] because he wasn’t good enough.”
